Kuala Lumpur, 22nd February 2024: While land constraints in Singapore are becoming more prominent, Malaysia is rising to fame as the new regional datacentre hub. With the country housing 113 megawatts of take-up, one of the highest in Southeast Asia, more local and overseas investors have started acknowledging Malaysia’s candidature for the datacentre race.
The country has gone all out with its digital infrastructure developments especially with cable landing stations, underwater cables, 5G and enhanced fibre connectivity. To top it all, Malaysia is luring more datacentre investments thanks to its Digital Ecosystem Acceleration scheme which is responsible for tax breaks and other perks.
Last year, the government also released the New Industrial Master Plan 2030 which prioritizes digitization for overall growth.
In numbers, Malaysia has garnered investments worth $16.35 billion between 2021 and March 2023 and currently houses over 600 industrial estates with strong connectivity.
Furthermore, with the growing demand and proliferation of cloud services, global giants have further intensified the reliance on the country’s datacentres.
